An Indonesian Improvement to the Traditional System of Cultivating, Collecting and Processing Patchouli Oil

BotanAgra presently exports patchouli oil with our standard 30% to 34% patchouli alcohol content from three regions of Indonesia; northern Sumatra, western Sumatra and central Java.
Each region may have a distinctive fragrance or quality important to some customers. Traditionally, seasonal harvests are blended at random so that the fragrances for a particular season may vary.

We will keep harvests from each of these regions separate so that our products can be blended to a customer's fragrance or quality specifications and duplicated as close as possible.

BotanAgra produces all natural patchouli oil products that are filtered and cleaned during the distillation process. We offer a range of color grades described as extra dark, dark, light, very light, extra light and pure light.

BotanAgra's standard quality control methods usually produce a natural "light" color product with 12% to 27% T or a "very light" color product with 28% to 43% T ("T" is the percent of color transmission or clarity at 525 nanometers of light).

BotanAgra's light and very light products are produced by using superior quality control methods and stainless steel equipment to distill the product.
Traditional patchouli suppliers use an iron pot or steel drum which causes iron to leach out into the oil, oxidize, and produce the extra dark, rust colored, patchouli oil. BotanAgra uses advanced filtration and separation techniques that remove suspended particulate to produce the lighter color, low iron, grades required by some of our customers.
We use colorimetry at our Indonesian plantations to measure and ensure consistent color clarity in our products and analytical equipment such as gas chromatographs to assure good quality control.

In addition to our "natural" patchouli oil products described above, BotanAgra can also offer customized patchouli oil products. BotanAgra's fractionation plant is now operational. Our fractional distillation can be used to produce "customized" products or to isolate specific fractions as required for a customer's product research and development. Increased patchouli alcohol content can be blended as required for customized orders. Our chemical engineers have developed processes for BotanAgra to offer fractionated, molecular distilled, supercritical or synthesized patchouli oil to your specifications.
